For Sat Nav use the postcode PL23 1PG.
If you are coming down the A30 turn off at Bodmin, take the A38 (marked Liskeard and Plymouth) as far as Dobwalls (then skip the next paragraph).
If you are coming from Plymouth on the A38 expressway, cross the Tamar Bridge and continue on the A38 towards Liskeard, stay on the A38 until Dobwalls, which is now bypassed.
At the main roundabout just past Dobwalls take the A390 marked St. Austell. About 1½ miles from Dobwalls on the A390 you go through East Taphouse. After the filling station, turn left (B3359) marked Looe/Polperro/Polruan. Drive about 5 miles and take a right at a 'Y' fork marked Lerryn, Bodinnick and Polruan and after about 4 miles you will see a turn to the left (by a phone box) marked Polruan. Follow the signs for about another 3 miles. (You may take a dramatic but very narrow short cut through a right turn to PONT). Once you have passed the "Polruan" sign, drive right down the road into the village.
Chapel Lane is a narrow lane on the right as you go down Fore Street, about 100 metres from the bottom. Corner Cottage is the large white house at the top of Chapel Lane on the right. There is no vehicular access to Chapel Lane, so ignore the final instruction from your Sat Nav.
If you are travelling light you can park your car and walk your luggage to the house. There is a good and reasonably secure car park at the top of the hill, St Saviour’s, but you have to pay. It is signed as you come into the village. Alternatively, there is a less secure free car park at the top of the village just off the main road. It is also a longer walk to the house.
If you have more luggage and stuff you need to take your car down Fore Street and stop at the bottom of Chapel Lane, unload and leave things there and then move the car before returning to take your burdens up Chapel Lane to the house. Sometimes you can leave the car at the bottom of Fore Street without blocking it until ready to take it up to the car park.
Keys are in the key safe on the front door. I will give you the number, but please ensure you replace them when you leave.
Beds are likley to be made and towels provided, but if you need any linen or towels they can be found in a large black bag which is usually kept in the cupboard under the stairs, or failing that, there is a loft cupboard in the attic with a number of laundry bags in which you should be able to find anything you need in the way of bedding, towels, tea towels etc. Please empty the black bag of clean laundry and put all your used laundry in it when you leave and I will ensure it is washed.
Behind the television you will find a socket which provides WiFi, TV, HiFi, broadband, etc. It should be left switched on, but if it is not already you need to switch it on. Connect to WiFi using SSID: CornerCottage and Password: CCPolruan. Please do not switch this socket off when you leave as the internet connection is used to control the heating, but please make sure the TV, DVD player and HiFi are switched off.
TV, Blu Ray player and Sky Q available. Unlimited broadband so you can use the on-line services if you wish.
Hot water is provided via an immersion heater controlled by a timer in the kitchen. It is normally programmed to come on 06:00 and go off at 10:00. It is then switched again at 18:00, going off at 20:00 to provide hot water in the evening. The timer should be switched off on arrival, so to switch it on press the ADVANCE button. It will then operate according to the programmed times. If you need hot water urgently you can use the HOT WATER BOOST switch which should provide enough hot water within about 30 minutes.
The heated towel rail in the shower room is on a similar timer which you will need to turn on as above by pressing the ADVANCE button once. It is programmed to come on at 02:00 and off at 10:00. Ensure the controller at the bottom left hand corner of the towel rail is set to full.
If you need to use the heating, please consult the house details which gives you a lot of relevant information. Here you can also access various manuals for appliances etc.
Help yourself to anything you need, but please replace anything you use. Please also report any problems to me. If you are a big party, there is a large fridge in the basement if you need more cooling space.
In a small Cornish village like Polruan, refuse collection and recycling are rather more challenging. Please observe the correct procedures to avoid problems. Please use the black bags provided in the bin in the kitchen and put them, with all other rubbish in them, in the dustbin outside marked CORNER COTTAGE. Also, recycling should be placed in the bags in the basement and put out on the requisite days. Details are on the notice board in the kitchen and in the house details.
Please strip the beds and place all your used linen, bedding, towels, etc into the black laundry bag and leave it in the hall to be collected for washing.
Please ensure the HOT WATER BOOST is switched OFF and the timer controllers for the hot water and the heated towel rail are also OFF. To do this press the ADVANCE button on the digital timer three times so it cycles to ADVANCE, then ON OVERRIDE and then OFF OVERRIDE. This will ensure the hot water and heated towel rail are permanently OFF.
PLEASE LEAVE THE POWER ON TO THE TV, HIFI ETC AND DO NOT SWITCH OFF ANY RADIATORS. I have control of the heating so once you depart I will set the radiators remotely.
Put out all rubbish in black sacks and into the dustbin and any remaining recycling in the basement. Make sure power is switched off to everything except the fridge in the kitchen and the HiFi, TV etc, which will keep the WiFi running. Lock the basement and front doors.
